MISSION

The mission of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Court is to exercise, to the maximum extent possible, the powers authorized by the Tribal Constitution.  As a separate but equal branch of the Tribal government the court will fairly and without prejudice adjudicate all civil matters authorized by the Tribal Council including but not limited to appeals.

TRIBAL COURT

The Purpose of the Tribal Court is to serve all tribal members who have a civil complaint against another tribal person or entity. The Tribal Court allows for civil cases to be heard within a judicial process that reflects both tribal traditions and community standards for conflict resolution.

All individuals who appear before the tribal court are assured a fair, prompt, and impartial hearing that guarantees their rights as outlined by the Tribal Constitution. There are three types of courts as described below:

In addition to hearing civil cases, the Tribal Court is also working on several activities that will strengthen our judicial infrastructure.

These include:

  • Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Rules of Evidence
  • Appellate Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Web site development
  • Facebook and Twitter Accounts
  • Tribal Court Guidebook for Tribal Members
  • Peacemaker Ethical Code
